While cleaning my house today, I came across an article in the newspaper, describing the impact of Pokémon on the youth of America. The fact that it was mentioned in a local newspaper article alone should show just how much of an effect video games can have on popular culture. It is important to remember the video games of the past because as more gaming franchises reach the masses, it is their predecessors that made us all interested in the industry to begin with.

If you’re into video games as much as I am, You probably already know about the Nintendo 3DS. I like to call it “The Wonder Portable” simply because it will be the first time a handheld is more powerful than its manufacturer’s current console. I have yet to see the 3D in action, but judging from 2D screenshots alone (particularly from the Resident Evil game) it would still be the best game system ever made. This is because Nintendo is finally releasing their top-tier games with current-gen graphics. It also looks like third parties will finally start developing AAA games for a Nintendo platform again. Just check out these sexy graphics.
The big news of this post is somewhat funny. Nintendo announced that they will announce the release date and pricing of the 3DS on September 29. That’s only 39 days from today. I am so excited that I may just literally jump through the roof when I hear the news. I know for a fact that Nintendo will be at New York Comic-Con this October, and I happen to have tickets. With the announcement of the release of the 3DS so soon before Comic-Con, I am almost totally sure that they will be showcasing the handheld there. If they do, expect to read (or watch) my impressions on this very website. As for the release date, I expect a Sunday in mid-November because:
A. Nintendo always releases things on Sundays and launches major systems near Thanksgiving; and
B. The regular Nintendo DS systems and games have stopped selling large quantities. If Nintendo wants to make money, they need to release their atom bomb of a handheld soon. If I were to bet my money on a single day of the month, I would say November 21st.
Until next time, this is Screath, signing out.
